Hornepayne Community hospital is serviced by a Health Canada Diagnostic accredited laboratory. The HCH laboratory offers oversight of an extended point of care testing (POCT)  services which are performed by the nursing personnel to provide emergency testing services for some of the most critical tests. This approach is particularly crucial for small remote hospitals, where access to comprehensive laboratory facilities is limited. POCT enables healthcare providers to quickly obtain vital diagnostic information, facilitating prompt decision-making and treatment, which can significantly impact patient outcomes. Additionally, POCT enhances the efficiency of healthcare delivery, reducing the need for patient transfers to larger facilities and minimizing delays in care.

Another essential service that the HCH laboratory offers is specimen collection for people of the community. People may contact the hospital and arrange for an appointment with one of our laboratory personnel. The specimen collection can include blood, urine, and other specimen collections as requested on the patient’s laboratory requisition which was provided by their medical provider.
