Jarid. One of the imaging techs

Our modern and spacious department offers a full range of general radiography examinations and various ultrasound services, including abdominal, pelvic, obstetrical (OB), thyroid, breast (small parts), carotid artery blood flow, and venous studies. We have recently expanded our services to include Nuchal Translucency (NT) studies, an important OB ultrasound procedure that, combined with blood tests, helps assess the risk of chromosomal abnormalities and other conditions.

All imaging exams are obtained and stored digitally. We are now a fully filmless environment, with images stored on a central server locally and a main server in Timmins. This digital system allows images to be instantly available to ordering physicians throughout the hospital and transmitted to Timmins for interpretation within minutes—vastly improving patient care. The transition to digital imaging was made possible with funding from FedNor, the Diagnostic Medical Equipment Fund, and Canada Health Infoway.

Recent Updates to Equipment and Software

We’ve made significant technology upgrades to enhance efficiency and care:

  • Digital Imaging Capability (Agfa Medical)

    • A state-of-the-art digital detector captures high-resolution images immediately after exposure.

  • Enterprise Imaging (Agfa Medical)

    • Replacing the previous IMPAX system, Enterprise Imaging (EI) is a Picture Archival and Communication System (PACS) that stores diagnostic images and reports securely and efficiently.

  • Meditech Expanse

    • This new web-based software platform is now used across all hospital departments. In DI, it is utilized to book, register, schedule, and manage imaging orders.
